The Center provides legal help to abused and trafficked children in desperate situations, often making the difference between finding a safe home and being left in life-threatening danger. The Center is also reshaping the future for abused children by securing critical rights and safeguards through reforms and strategic court rulings.
Signature reforms include guaranteeing abused children the right to an attorney in critical proceedings, requiring thorough searches for relatives, and reducing aging out by holding agencies accountable for finding families for children lingering in care. This work has transformed the life trajectories of countless children nationwide.
In 2024, the Center was honored with the Norman Borlaug Humanitarian Award. In her home state, the Arizona Capitol Times has honored Darcy multiple times, naming her Non-Profit Leader of the Year (2023), Public Policy Leader of the Year (2023), and Best Non-Profit Leader (2024).
Before launching The Center for the Rights of Abused Children, Darcy served as CEO of the Goldwater Institute, where she spearheaded work that led to the passage of the nation’s right-to-try law and the largest education scholarship program for students in the country.
Darcy’s work is inspired by her experiences fostering 10 children and adopting four.
