Western environmentalists often claim to represent poor people’s interests when pushing their agendas. Mine Your Own Business is the rare documentary that challenges that notion by visiting remote parts of the world and interviewing locals whose desire for progress contrasts sharply with the goals prescribed to them by foreign environmentalists. The film takes viewers to Romania, Madagascar, and Chile where communities are awaiting large mining projects. Alan Hill and Richard Young of Gabriel Resources, a mining company that is reviving a town in Romania, will briefly discuss the film and explain how their firm and the local community have had to confront the anti-development campaign of Western NGOs.
