This study tallies corporate welfare in the federal budget and finds that the government spends $181 billion a year on aid to businesses.

Legislators should welcome executive efforts to downsize the federal bureaucracy and improve the efficiency and effectiveness of federal government operations while ensuring those efforts are well-executed and accountable. But they shouldn’t rely on the executive to do the heavy lifting for them.

Eliminating the US Department of Education and all that it does would produce major savings. But so would eliminating much of what it does short of full termination, especially if we keep only what is constitutional.
