In the latest development in the ongoing debate over shutting down the Department of Education, Democratic lawmakers last week were blocked from entering the department’s offices.
Neal McCluskey, Director of Cato’s Center for Educational Freedom, recently discussed the push to eliminate the department on the Cato Daily Podcast with Caleb Brown. He reiterated that the Department of Education is merely “a place where money gets shuffled around in the name of education.”
He argues that the government shouldn’t be involved in education and suggests ways the department could be downsized or eliminated. One approach is to end all federal education programs, which McCluskey noted should be the ultimate goal.
