Cato Institute Policy Analyst Nicholas Anthony is available for interviews ahead of this week’s Senate and House hearings on the issue of debanking.
Anthony issued the following statement:
“After bubbling up for years, issues of debanking have reached the White House and Congress. The hearings in the House and Senate this week show that debanking is a serious issue troubling many Americans. However, if Congress wants to fix this problem, it’s going to have to take a hard look at the laws it has created. Under the Bank Secrecy Act, Congress has created a regime where all of the incentives are toward closing accounts when banks see something unusual. Making matters worse, strict confidentiality forces banks to leave customers in the dark with little to no recourse to understand what went wrong. Until Congress fixes these issues, history will continue to repeat itself.”
Anthony wrote a blog today on the two types of debanking, which you can read here.
If you would like to speak with Anthony on this issue, please contact me to set up an interview.
