The newly released Human Freedom Index (HFI) provides a comprehensive overview of human freedom worldwide. The tenth annual report measures freedom as the absence of coercive constraint and employs 86 indicators across a broad spectrum of personal and economic freedoms. This year’s report tracks long-term trends in freedom, ranks 165 countries, and explores the relationship between freedom and human well-being. Christian Caryl, an American journalist who is widely published in international politics and foreign affairs sits down with Ian Vásquez, Vice President for International Studies at the Cato Institute and coauthor of the HFI to discuss the index in depth.
