11:40AM – 12:10PM How Blockchain Regulates, and Regulating Blockchain

Matthew Feeney, Director, Project on Emerging Technologies, Cato Institute

Moderated by Caleb O. Brown, Director of Multimedia and host of the Cato Daily Podcast, Cato Institute

Cato scholars Matthew Feeney and Diego Zuluaga will continue our efforts to fill an important void in the blockchain technology dialogue. Namely, while there’s much focus on the promise of blockchain to make economic exchange cheaper, faster, and more transparent by removing intermediaries, there has not been enough analysis of the impact of potential interaction with government and the associated regulatory risks and opportunities.

Matthew and Diego will explore the role blockchain could play in promoting trust, preventing fraud, and replacing inefficient government regulation. They will also share insights on how the government can wittingly or unwittingly stifle this new technology in a live recording of the Cato Daily Podcast with host Caleb Brown.
