As misinformation proliferates online, the government increasingly attempts to curb its spread. In the face of strong formal speech protections, government officials have taken to pressuring and cajoling social media platforms to suppress unwanted content in the halls of Congress and behind the scenes. To what extent can the government’s power to speak be used to combat online misinformation before it becomes “jawboning” that violates the speech rights of private actors? The latest documentary from FedSoc Studios, Jawboned: Miss Information vs. Free Speech, investigates the distinctions between notification, persuasion, and unconstitutional government coercion, a key issue before the Supreme Court this term in Vivek H. Murthy v. Missouri and National Rifle Association v. Maria Vullo.

Please join us for the premiere screening of Jawboned (approximately 25 minutes) followed by a discussion and Q&A session with the director and cast.

The film premiere will conclude with a reception in the winter garden.
