Fall Liberty Seminar

Every year, the Cato Institute receives well over a thousand applications for its internship program and other student seminars. In fact, the number of well-qualified candidates significantly surpasses the number of positions available. To engage such top-quality talent, Cato has developed a special, invitation-only weekend seminar in conjunction with the Institute for Humane Studies, a forerunner in independent education opportunities for university students.

This seminar aims to identify, educate, and help launch the careers of aspiring liberty-oriented policy minds. The seminar will gather over 50 accomplished students to explore the historical, economic, and philosophical foundations of a free society and how these principles apply to contemporary policy issues. The seminar will include lectures with leading scholars and policy experts–many of whom students may recognize from nightly news shows, newspaper columns, and popular blogs. There will also be daily discussion groups and evening socials to provide an outlet for processing the ideas presented.

The Fall Liberty Seminar will be hosted at the Cato Institute’s headquarters located at 1000 Massachusetts Ave., NW Washington, D.C. 20001. Attendees will have free time every day to explore downtown D.C. Tuition, lodging, meals, and materials will be provided free of charge for all participants (attendees are responsible for their own travel expenses).

For travel purposes, please plan to arrive at the hostel for check-in at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday. Registration at the Cato Institute will begin at 2:45 p.m. Seminar activities will conclude Saturday at 11:30 p.m. Please plan to check out of the hostel no later than 11:00 a.m. on Sunday.
