Passport & Visa
Traveling to Russia requires a passport and a visa. Your passport must be valid for at least 30 days beyond the date on which you leave Russia. You must apply for a visa at least 21 days before your departure date. There are several items you must submit with your application, including hotel confirmations and flight itineraries. Your local Russian Consulate can provide you with the required information. U.S. citizens can visit www.russianembassy.org for this information.
Air Transportation
Your registration fee does not include airfare. It is recommended that you work with a travel agent when booking your trip. Basic information is listed below.
Estimated flying times for US citizens to/from Russia is 8½ hours from New York, 10-11 hours from Chicago, and 12 hours from Los Angeles.
To Moscow
Most international flights arrive at Sheremetyevo II Airport (SVO).
Moscow to St Petersburg
You can travel from Moscow to St.Petersburg by either airplane or train. Please discuss these options with your travel agent.
From St. Petersburg
Pulkovo II Airport is the international airport. It is recommended that you arrive at the airport 1½ hours before departure time.
Ground Transportation
Your Deluxe Package registration fee includes ground transportation to and from the airport/train station on all legs of the trip. Please submit a copy of your itinerary to Margaret Bruntrager (russiaconference@cato.org) by February 27 to secure these arrangements.
Weather/Attire
The climate in April in Russia is very unpredictable. Snow flurries and temperatures in the mid-20s F (-5 C) are possible into May. The average daily temperature range in April is 34-50 F (1-10 C). Warm clothes, hat, and gloves are recommended.
Business attire is appropriate during the conference.
